This … Is About Life (my first post)
I am a newly published author and poet with an interest in writing about everyday life encounters, starting with my poetry and other books to follow. The title I’ve chosen for my blog, This…Is About Life (my first post) is also used as a primary title for each of my three currently published poetry books along with their separate subtitles. I began writing seriously just prior to my first year of High School at the age of fourteen. I also decided to use a photograph on the back cover of the books which depicts my age timelines during the writing of each book.
The first book has poetry written between 1969 and 1973. I realized as I read the poems years later that like many, I was a struggling teen looking for acceptance and love. I found inspirational thoughts to be helpful during that time. Sometimes it requires that we look back to the beginning in order to appreciate graciously all we’ve done to move forward.
The second book of poems were written between 1974 and 1995. In many of these poems, there were dreams being fulfilled that I’d long given up on achieving in my lifetime. My marriage, children, college education and establishing a career, were all dreams I never believed I’d accomplish.
The third book of poems were written between 1996 and 2016. This book compiles poetry of everyday life experiences, prayers and hope for a better outcome. When writing, I realize that like a musician, song writer, singer and so many other talents that we all have, it’s an art and a gift.
